FormLab
On March 23, 2005, the School of Industrial Design of the
Faculty of Environmental Design at Université de Montréal inaugurated Formlab, a laboratory for advanced digital
imaging and rapid prototyping. Dedicated to research into
the use of digital techniques in industrial design, this lab
supports numerous research projects in participative design,
virtual reality, hybrid digital/analog methodologies, and
automated manufacturing. With its specialized equipment
and researchers who explore the furthest reaches of digital
design, Formlab is fast becoming a knowledge development
facility attracting candidates to the Design and Complexity
Master's program at the university as well as to the Faculty's
doctoral program.
Formlab was made possible through a generous donation
from the J. Armand Bombardier Foundation and a grant
from the Canada Foundation for Innovation. With this
important financial support, Formlab is able to offer high
performance computers, a peripheral for haptic data entry,
a bifocal 3D scanner, a fusion-deposition rapid prototyping
machine, and several pieces of equipment enabling vacuum
digital imaging.
Hexagram-Concordia
Located in the heart of Montreal, the Hexagram Concordia
laboratory was inaugurated during the "Designing Futures"
gala on May 31, 2006. The laboratory occupies two floors
as well as a cutting edge production studio in Concordia's
new Integrated Engineering, Computer Science and Visual
Arts Complex.
The Hexagram Concordia laboratory is equipped with a
Jacquard loom to allow creator/researchers working in the
interactive textile field to create complex projects with
textiles and weave electronic components into the fabrics
themselves.The Hexagram Concordia laboratory also
features printers that allow images to be transferred directly
onto the textiles used in the creations of our creator and
researchers.
