Metacycle discarded cell phone to a table lamp
Problem:
In China, over 5 million cell phones are thrown out every year. The
average lifetime of a cell phone is six months. There are so many components
that go into the production of cell phones that the disassembly of the
product would be very costly. Furthermore, some of the functionalities
of the cell phone can still be used for other purposes. This is what this
lamp is trying to demonstrate.
Description:
The advantages present in the functions of the cell phone are still
present in the metamorphosed lamp. In this case, the power system of this
cell phone became the heart of the lamp. We took advantage of the mobility
that offered the battery system. Therefore, this lamp emulates the usage
of the cell phone. You can use it on the go like a flashlight, or by deploying
the arm, you can use it like a plugged in desk lamp.
Critique:
Pros: The biggest advantage that this light presents is that the power
system of the cell phone (and all the efforts that went into its production)
are being used in a second life.
Cons: The quality of the lighting is directly dependent to the power output
of the cell phone. Another point to be raised is the large quantity of
material that was used in this design as well as the use of metal pins
in the joints of the lamp. |
